Top 20 IT Software and Service Exporters in India
|
|
NASSCOM, the premier trade body and ‘voice’ of the IT software and service industry in India, today released the rankings of Top 20 IT Software and Service exporters in India (excluding ITES-BPO revenues). According to the survey, TCS has retained its lead followed by Infosys and Wipro respectively.
Mr. Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM,
said “India's services exports grew by over 33% in FY06 to clock revenues of USD 17.3 billion, led by a strong demand and increased traction for traditional services like ADM, new services like EAI and package implementation, and new areas like engineering services. The industry has been able to maintain this growth, despite a larger base, through large client wins, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and the movement of the industry towards a stable pricing model. We have a trend where companies are increasingly winning multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts with global firms.

We have a trend where companies are increasingly winning multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts with global firms. It is also interesting to note that India has become a hub for global MNC firms for software development, supply chain management and other services. These players are beefing up their presence in the Indian market by investing over a billion dollars and setting up establishments here, indicating a vast and yet untapped market for Indian software companies,” he added.
The acceptance of offshore as a key driver in higher value and transformational outsourcing combined with the demonstrated ability of Indian service providers to effectively adapt global delivery to new service areas, is an underlying factor in the shift towards greater depth in service lines.

Methodology for ranking
NASSCOM sends out a detailed Snap Survey questionnaire annually to all its member companies, accounting for 95 percent of the Indian IT software and BPO industry revenue. Information collated through the questionnaire includes: aggregate performance; service lines; verticals and geographies. The Snap Survey form also takes into account the contribution of the 100 percent owned overseas subsidiaries after deducting all the double accounting.
This list does not include companies whose:
- Corporate headquarters are located outside India, but who have an India-centric global delivery model AND
- Who have not shared their India-centric revenue figures.
Had they been ranked based on their India revenues, companies such as Cognizant, Accenture, IBM and HP would have been placed amongst the Top 10 of this list and companies such as Kanbay, Syntel and Intelligroup would have been amongst the Top 20.
Since few companies are privately held, in order to maintain uniformity revenues for Top 20 companies are not being shared.
