ZENSAR's Carbon Calculator

Global warming is linked to the amount of carbon and other greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere. As individuals, almost everything we do leads to the release of carbon into the atmosphere - while driving our car, ironing our clothes, using the hair dryer or just simple acts of carelessness – leaving your electronic equipments on standby, not switching off the car engine at long signal halts, leaving the tap open, leaving the lights on etc.

With a team of in house experts, Zensar have developed a carbon calculator, designed specifically keeping Indian measures and usage pattern in mind. The result of the calculation is an estimated emission figure in terms of CO2 that a person gives out which becomes their Carbon Footprint.

The calculator is a simple application hosted on the Company’s intranet as well as the website for all to access and uses information one enters to work out individual carbon footprint. Here one can measure carbon dioxide emissions, compare them with the norm and find out how to start reducing pollution right away. This can then be compared in a few months to see how much carbon dioxide one has actually reduced.

Climate changes training at INFOSYS by the Climate Project of India

The Climate Project – India (TCP-India) conducted the Environment Sustainability Leadership Program (ESLP), for over 100 selected Infoscions at Bangalore DC on August 8.

The Climate Project (TCP) was founded by Nobel Laureate Al Gore to spread awareness about the adverse effects of climate change. The Indian chapter of TCP was established in March 2008. TCP-I uses a variety of media to educate people about climate change. It also works with corporates, NGOs and educational institutions to communicate solutions and strategies for sustainable development.

The one-day interactive program in two sessions was received enthusiastically by infoscions at the DC. The first session explored the science and impact of climate change, with a focus on impact on India. The second session was led by experts from various fields of environmental science and focused on the solutions.

Attended by 100 selected Infoscions, the initiative was led by Green Connect – the environmental sustainability wing of the Voice of Youth group in association with the Infosys Green Initiatives division.

Be Responsible - RECYCLE

Electronic waste, if disposed off in the right manner can be used as a rich, secondary source of metals. Recycling responsibly not only protects the environment, it also reduces the quantity of ore that needs to be extracted from the earth.

Getting the sparrows back at WIPRO, Hyderabad

Sparrows are said to be an ‘indicator species’ that reflect the synergy between our ecology and habitat. The equation is simple, and alarming too. Ecology plays by its rules, on the one hand, as we take the liberty to enjoy nature’s bounty, its also our responsibility to preserve it for our co-habitants. Not just mere birds, today there is a rapid decline in the number of sparrows spotted in cities. Being human-associated birds, sparrows are sensitive to human habitat change, which in turn reflect our living conditions and future ecology and survival trends. Fortunately, we can get the sparrows back, the Hyderabad Wipro team showed us how.

  • An in-house nursery was created with not just flowering plants, but also tree saplings which were planted throughout the year, over 3000 trees planted this year
  • Continuous landscaping, received the best Corporate Green Award for last 3 years
  • During summer water bowls are kept for the birds to quench their thirst
  • Some sparrow nests were traced across the campus
  • The reclusive sparrows were finally spotted
