Over the last decade, role of Quality Assurance (QA) function has undergone a significant change. A QA resource is not only looked as a person performing essential process-audits; but also entertained as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assist engagements in identifying process improvement opportunities and driving improvement initiatives. CMMI, 6 Sigma, LEAN have provided a framework for the QA function to align their initiatives with Voice of Customer / Business and Business Objectives thereby bringing management visibility. This in turn has increased the dependency of the senior management on Quality Assurance function.
With the increase in clients interest in process standardization & optimization at their end, new avenues in the form of Process Consultancy have opened up, which provides Quality Assurance function the opportunity to demonstrate their value add directly to the client. In many cases, this has helped increasing clients confidence in a vendor-organization thus generating new / additional business.
