NASSCOM 2005 - An Overview
Since 1990, NASSCOM's Annual Event has been the most prestigious and successful hi-tech conference in India. Over the years, the NASSCOM conference has hosted several key figures from the global IT industry, senior government officials from India and overseas and a large gathering of the Indian (IT industry) diaspora and country delegations from North America, UK, Europe, Asia Pacific including Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.

NASSCOM 2005 - The IT Event Of The Year
NASSCOM 2005, held at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai from 8th-10th Feb, 2005 was reportedly the best annual event till date. The conference had extraordinary speakers who ranged from the Hon'ble President of India Mr A P J Abdul Kalam; Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Hon'ble Minister for Communication and IT; Mr Vilas Rao Deshmukh, Hon'able CM of Maharashtra and Industry heavy weights like Mr S Ramadurai, CEO, TCS; Mr Narayanamurthy, Chairman of Board and Chief Mentor, Infosys; Azim Premji, Chairman and MD, Wipro; Hienrich V Pierer, chairman of the supervisory board Siemens AG and Mr Stephen Green, Chairman, HSBC Bank.

More than 1300 delegates packed out the 3-day seminars and many attended entire sessions without seats as the speakers covered many interesting industry related topics!

New Tracks, Innovative Features
One of the key success factors of the NASSCOM annual event is its constantly evolving format, meticulous planning and execution and high-quality delegate profile. In tandem with this aspect, NASSCOM 2005, in addition to the key program listings, had conceptualized four new tracks, keeping in mind current IT trends and issues. The four new tracks - Global Leadership Awards, IT Innovation in India, NASSCOM Public-Private Partnership Initiatives and the Special Session Track drew a lot of attention among both Indian and foreign delegates.

RFID Enabled ID Cards
NASSCOM 2005 added another feather to its cap by being the first in India to implement RFID enabled ID cards to track delegate behaviour during the conference. These RFID cards helped allow or restrict access to delegates as per their registration information. This helped in moderating crowd control across the different tracks running simultaneously in four ballrooms of Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.

Overall, the event was a grand success with quite a few encouraging announcements and promises from government and corporate bodies to spur the growth of the Indian IT industry. Mr Vilas Rao Deshmukh, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra publicly declared his assurance of improving the Mumbai airport infrastructure to enable state-of-the-art conveniences. Similarly, Hienrich V Pierer, chairman of the supervisory board, Siemens AG, who was a recipient of the Global Leadership Awards said, "We have invested hundreds of millions in our operations here and our enthusiasm and well-founded optimism about the country's current prospects have led us to earmark $500 million," said.

The day concluded on a very positive note for the Indian IT industry.
