The study undertaken by NASSCOM and Booz & Company is a follow-up to our 2006 report and is aimed at reviewing the progress made since 2006, understanding the change in customer perspectives about off shoring, estimating the potential market opportunity for India (off shoring and domestic) by 2020 and creating greater awareness about India’s relatively lesser known strengths in the ER&D domain. It also identifies and prioritises verticals of interest so that the industry can invest systematically in creating a sustainable ecosystem.
The Indian ER&D services offshoring industry has grown dramatically since 2005-06 due to the shift in the sourcing strategy of customers. The Indian IT-BPO industry has invested significantly to strengthen their customer outreach and build engineering capacity and capability. There has been a significant expansion of capabilities and domain expertise not only across new and existing verticals, but also across the full spectrum of product development value chain.
