The IT-BPO industry in India has become one of the most significant growth catalysts for the Indian economy, contributing nearly 7.5 percent to the national GDP in FY2012. FY2012 is also a milestone year for the industry as aggregate revenue crossed the USD 100 billion mark.

Adding to the importance of the industry to the Indian economy is the employment it generates; the industry provides direct employment to over 2.8 million people and indirect employment to another 8.9 million. This in turn has led to some highly mature and innovative HR practices that are now being replicated in other industries. At the same time, IT-BPO companies are continuously reviewing the specific human capital challenges relevant to their industry to design newer and more innovative initiatives. To recognise this sustained and continuous commitment, NASSCOM, along with Mercer as knowledge partner, is launching its second NExT Practices Awards 2012.
