Product Management Platform 1: A Workshop on Foundation of Product Management

Overview

With rise of IT product companies in India, there is significant demand to spread awareness, get clarity and enhance knowledge base on various functions and roles of product management – understanding the principals and streamlining the product team. Role of product managers and marketers is evolving rapidly. Industry is striving of good product managers. To address these challenges, NASSCOM joins hands with India Product Management Association to create a long run program on Product Management. Product Management Platform 1, a-day long workshop on various aspect of Product Management function, is the first event in this journey.

This day-long workshop would cover:

Module 1: Introduction to Product Management

  • Introduction to Products, and how it is different from solutions and services.
  • Why do Good Products fail?
  • What makes products succeed?
  • What is Product management and Role of Product managers?

Module 2: Product Management Process and Life Cycle

  • Overview of product management process
  • Overview of PDLC processes and how to control PDLC
  • What makes a product manager successful?
  • Tips and suggestions for becoming an effective product manager

Arun Saxena
Chief Mentor,
Insights and Directions

Arun is presently chief mentor at Insights and Directions, a coaching and consulting firm based at Hyderabad. He is also on the advisory board at Institute of Product Leadership (productleadership.in) where owns the product management curriculum and teaches several courses to MNC software companies as well as an Exec-MBA class in product management. He also coaches and mentors start - ups and is an early stage investor.

Prior to this, Arun worked with Tata Burroughs (Tata Infotech now merged into TCS) and Microsoft. At TCS Arun developed business software products in the area of finance and manufacturing. At Microsoft Arun worked with several teams ranging from Windows client, Word, Exchange, Dynamics CRM and Bing. In his last role Arun headed the program management practice at IDC Hyderabad with the stated goal to build the PM pipe so IDC could win bigger charters from Redmond. Between corporate jobs Arun also dabbled with entrepreneurship for eight years – growing to a $30 million Germany based company in the year 2000 building software components, products and services for some of the largest software vendors.

Arun lives in Hyderabad while pursuing his passion with building products that delight customers. Feel free to engage with him for some intellectual pow - wow or for some real life lessons.

Next Education India Pvt. Ltd.

A versatile and a performance - driven individual, Varsha has a diversified experience in product management, product design, content development, sales and marketing. Over the years she has worked for training and education companies a nd has developed IT - enabled products for the B2C and B2B segment.

Varsha, post - graduate in management from Great Lakes Institute of Management, is currently working as a Product Manager with Next Education India Pvt. Ltd. As the head of two products, she focusses on integrating technology with hands - on learning in the K - 12 school curriculum.

Prior to Next Education, she has worked with Csquare Learnings and has planned the end - to - end design and development of an e - learning module (the first of its kind in India and abroad) to help aspiring students with result - oriented strategies for GMAT. She was also a part of the core leadership team to start up their branch and make it a profitable centre. Her training experience includes various teacher training workshops and guest lectures on ‘leadership and high performance team building’ at various colleges such as Christ University, Jain University, MVIT among others in Bangalore.
