Adopting NoSQL databases means adopting to a new, document-based data model. While most developers have internalized the rules of thumb for designing schemas for relational databases, these rules don't apply to NoSQL. Deep Dive Brief: Deep learning models have made impressive advances in recent years on natural language processing tasks. At Google, a deep learning based machine translation system reduces translation errors by an average of 60% compared to the earlier phrase-based production system . This improvement in accuracy has been achieved with almost a 100x reduction in code for feature engineering. In this session, we will focus on the foundational concepts behind these models: distributed representation, convolutional & recurrent neural networks, sequence to sequence models and attention mechanism. We will also discuss how to apply these concepts to solve real world problems such as Myra, MakeMyTrip’s customer care chatbot which uses deep learning models for intent classification / slot extraction in production.

This session will take you from the basic concepts of natural language processing to latest modelling techniques using deep learning. Topic: Code-mixed Language: Data and Systems

Presenter: Kalika Bali

Kalika Bali is a researcher at Microsoft Research India working in the areas of Machine Learning, Natural Language Systems and Applications, as well as Technology for Emerging Markets. Her research interests lie broadly in the area of Speech and Language Technology especially in the use of linguistic models for building technology that offers a more natural Human-Computer as well as Computer-Mediated interactions.

She is currently working on Project Mélange  which tries to understand, process and generate Code-mixed language data for both text and speech. She is also interested in how social and pragmatic functions affect language use, in code-mixed as well as monolingual conversations, and how to build effective computational models of sociolinguistics and pragmatics that can lead to more aware Artificial Intelligence.

She is very passionate about NLP and Speech technology for Indian Languages. She believe that local language technology especially with speech interfaces, can help millions of people gain entry into a world that is till now almost inaccessible to them. She has served, and continues to serve, on several government and other committees that work on Indian Language Technologies as well as Linguistic Resources and Standards for NLP/Speech.

Deep Dive Brief:

The session will cover the challenges in understanding, processing and generating Code-mixed languages and some work done towards overcoming them. We will concentrate on text mainly but will briefly touch on speech as well.

Broad Level Agenda:

Multilingual communities exhibit code-mixing, that is, mixing of two or more socially stable languages in a single conversation, sometimes even in a single utterance. This phenomenon has been widely studied by linguists and interaction scientists in the spoken language of such communities. However, with the prevalence of social media and other informal interactive platforms, code-switching is now also ubiquitously observed in user-generated text. As multilingual communities are more the norm from a global perspective, it becomes essential that code-switched text and speech are adequately handled by language technologies and NUIs.

Code-mixing is extremely prevalent in all multilingual societies. Current studies have shown that as much as 20% of user generated content from some geographies, like South Asia, parts of Europe, and Singapore, are code-mixed. Thus, it is very important to handle code-mixed content as a part of NLP systems and applications for these geographies.

In the past 5 years, there has been an active interest in computational models for code-mixing with a substantive research outcome in terms of publications, datasets and systems. However, it is not easy to find a single point of access for a complete and coherent overview of the area. This session is expecting to fill this gap and provide a foundation in both linguistic and computational aspects of code-mixing. We hope that this then becomes a starting point for those who wish to pursue research, design, development and deployment of code-mixed language technology systems in multilingual societies.

IBM Workshop : Blockchain

AI/ML Workshop from Amazon Web Services

Pre Requisites :

Software has traditionally not been able to SEE, HEAR or TALK, I can process only data. With the advent of AI and ML it is now possible to introduce complex capability where software can see and recognize objects, faces and things in pictures, understand text in blobs, generate speech and interact with humans naturally. In this workshop, we will introduce the participants to using the various capabilities in the AI/ML stack of AWS and how to build real world applications that are smart and can create engaging user experiences. This is a hands on workshop, though a lot of code will be pre-baked and given, the participants will be expected to write some code on their own. Familiarity on using Python programming language, processing data in text files, reading and writing json from web services would be expected.

Role of AI and Deep Learning in Portfolio Optimization and Stock Price Prediction

Abstract :

Portfolio optimization is the process of selecting the best portfolio and allocating ideal weights to every stock in a Portfolio. The objective typically maximizes expected return, and minimizes risk. One of the basic concepts of finance is the risk-return tradeoff. We will implement this using Machine Learning models and the approach of Markowitz’s Modern Portfolio Theory, which at the core of Portfolio Management Industry.

Deep Learning using TensorFlow is gaining lot of momentum over last couple of years. TensorFlow is an open source software library for high performance numerical computation. Originally developed by researchers and engineers from the Google Brain team within Google’s AI organization, it comes with strong support for machine learning and deep learning.

Stock Price prediction using Deep Learning models supported by the TensorFlow include Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long short-term memory (LSTM). Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) networks are special kind of Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) that are capable of learning long-term dependencies. LSTM network typically consists of memory blocks, referred to as cells, connected through layers.
