GST - Current Issues & Challenges For IT/ITES Sector

Goods and Services Tax- described as "Good and Simple Tax" is beneficial to the country's growth but appears to be far from simple. World Bank has rated India's GST law as the most complex Indirect tax law in the world despite our government's best efforts to keep it simple. Contrastingly, it is expected that implementation of GST would further India's rank in "Ease of doing Business"

Popularly described as "Second tryst with Destiny", it should in all fairness be called as "Tryst with Technology". With an intent to end "inspector raj", GST filings ranging from registration to returns/refunds have been completely made online. However GSTN, the SPV floated to manage the GST website has been unable to cope up with the constant stream of amendments and huge volume of data upload by taxpayers.

IT/ITeS sector like any other sector had also faced similar challenges. Further, they were also few other issues such as multiple registrations across States, separate registration for SEZ's, practical challenges in obtaining zero rating benefit, challenges in refund etc. being faced by IT/ITeS sector.
